Crude Oil
Crude Oil futures for December settled up $.31 or .342% at $90.83. Oil prices rose on Friday, recovering earlier losses as market participants weighed the threat of renewed US-Iran military escalation against potential diplomatic breakthroughs. Market watchers evaluated whether the conclusion of the US midterm elections might clear the path for fresh action against Iran, potentially risking Middle East oil supplies after Iran reported attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday alongside UKMTO data showing vessel strikes continuing near record levels.
Natural Gas
Natural Gas futures for December settled up $.051 or 1.731% at $2.998. Natural gas prices gained today after finding support from shifting weather patterns while longer-term futures faced persistent supply headwinds. The front-month December futures contract showed early signs of bottoming following projections of cooler Midwest and East Coast temperatures in mid-November, despite EIA data reporting a weekly storage build of 77 Bcf that expanded total inventories to 1.4% above the five-year average.
